CAREFREE

Cave Creek’s Sophisticated Neighbor

Carefree sits just east of Cave Creek, but the two towns have distinctly different personalities. Think Scottsdale lite — a little more polished, a little quieter and without the cowboys or Old West atmosphere. But Carefree is not trying to be Scottsdale. It has a beauty and personality of its own, shaped by the surrounding mountains, dramatic rock formations and Sonoran Desert.

Homes for Nearly Every Lifestyle

Want a lock-and-leave townhouse or patio home, whether modest in size or surprisingly spacious? Carefree has it. Want a one-of-a-kind custom home designed around the desert and the views? Carefree has that too. Homes climb the foothills with sweeping views across the East Valley, while others look toward Black Mountain, Continental Mountain or the massive granite formations around the Boulders.

Carefree offers an unusually broad mix of housing for a small town — condominiums, patio homes, townhomes, established neighborhoods and distinctive custom properties. At SkyRanch at Carefree, homes sit alongside a private airport, creating a rare lock, leave and fly option. It is an especially interesting fit for buyers relocating from the Midwest, East Coast or California who want the Arizona desert lifestyle without necessarily taking on a large property or high-maintenance home.

A Different Kind of Town Center

The center of town has a very different character from neighboring Cave Creek. Around the Carefree Desert Gardens and its landmark sundial are art galleries, boutiques, locally owned shops and small, cozy, one-of-a-kind restaurants, many with an upscale edge. The pedestrian-friendly streets, public art and desert landscaping give the center of Carefree an intimate feel rather than the scale of a typical suburban shopping district. The sundial, built in 1959, is the largest working sundial in North America and remains one of Carefree’s most recognizable landmarks.

Carefree also has its own full-service Bashas’ grocery store on Tom Darlington Drive, giving residents an in-town option for everyday shopping. Bashas’ is an Arizona-based grocer, adding a practical everyday convenience within town.

Close to Scottsdale, Cave Creek and Beyond

Location is another part of the appeal. Like Cave Creek, Carefree provides convenient access west toward I-17 and north to Prescott, Sedona and Flagstaff. But Carefree also sits directly on the Scottsdale Road corridor — Scottsdale Road becomes Tom Darlington Drive as it reaches Carefree — providing a natural connection south into Scottsdale and the rest of the Northeast Valley.

That makes Carefree an interesting middle ground. Scottsdale is closer at hand, while Cave Creek is only minutes away in the other direction. Residents can enjoy Cave Creek’s restaurants, live music, western events and nightlife without necessarily living in the middle of it.

Carefree Is More Than a Name

Carefree really does describe the lifestyle. It is quieter and more relaxed than Scottsdale, more polished than neighboring Cave Creek, and unmistakably its own place. Whether the choice is a lock-and-leave home, a mountainside custom property or something in between, Carefree offers a way to enjoy the Sonoran Desert without giving up convenience, restaurants, shopping or access to the rest of the Valley.
